Let’s talk about ear worms, pieces of tune that wriggle into your mind and stick there. This sticky music, extremely pleasing to the ear so yeah, raises your spirits and may drive you a bit batty as well.
My current playlist has these two amazing desi songs playing on a loop. I’d say a perfect blend of ragas and melodies, best heard rather than watched.
A bit of introduction first:-
‘Tinak Dhin’ is sung by a talented trio of Ali Hamza, Ali Sethi and Waqar Ehsin (Coke Studio doing a stellar job) and this song just makes me ridiculously happy.
I could wax eloquent about the voices (loved the You Tube description of one as smoky), the harmonies, the music arrangement, they are all fantastic. As the music picks up tempo, I imagine lush countryside and for some strange reason, pitter-patter of raindrops.
Go figure!
Then a few weeks back, the Sennheiser advertisement caught my eye and ear. Snatches of a drawl, a melody hard to put my finger on and I was intrigued.
A quick research- my Teen Titans to the rescue and voila, it was ‘Udd Gaye’ ( fly away) by Ritvitz. The song lived up to its name, my spirit actually does that each time- fly away.
Trust me, grab those ear phones and let the music sweep you away.

“Sing, sing a song
Sing out loud
Sing out strong
Sing of good things not bad
Sing of happy not sad…
…Just sing, sing a song”
– Carpenters
RDP: Ring– the tunes sit rather nicely in the ear .
